and here's some work in progress on my book cover re-do : The Little Prince. There's going to be 2 more geese and some ribbon/rope stuff he's holding on to....

senior portraits? maybe

Thiel is turned the senior portrait into an in class assignment. Ones for fun (guitar hero) and the the I toiled over endlessly. I dunno, I'm not excited about either of them :P I will keep on trucking!

teehee

So I'm working on my senior self portrait and it's not goin so hot, so I stopped and did this instead.

No, I'm not planning on using this as the final, it was just a silly thing I wanted to do instead of the one Thiel is making me do...

I'm not very good at rockband/guitar hero compared to Mike and Garrett, but I try. Note my tiny pinky. I think that's my problem..... I just can't reach that orange button... and I'm not coordinated enough to slide my hand.

le sigh

uuuuuuh update?

I'm trudging along on the food piece...

image number one (top)- some more food was added, plus a bit of texture.

image number 2 (middle)- is me being annoyed with black and white (because it's hard for me for some reason) and I put it in color to help me see it. Yes, I know, I'm backwards, but that's ok, color is my good ol friend.

image number 3 (bottom)- is the color version in grayscale via photoshop. I'd like to add the texture from the top image to this one whenever I get an approval of my composition.

comment and crits are much needed :)

thanks kids!

smoking update and some food

Do these cigarettes ever die?? NO.

No more puke green. Poo. Oh well, they read better this way.

The black and white image is for our third illo assignment about a chef who gets tongue cancer and can't taste because of the radiation. Crappy. So I'm doing a swirling of foods in black and white!

Here's the second assignment for Thiel. We had to read a story about this guy trying to quit smoking.

I posted some color studies and the final.

Mike's birthday continued.

I struggled for a few days on where to take this from what you see in the post before this one to the image above. I guess I just had to start piecing all the elements together for me to figure it out. :P Anyway, I'm about to send a small print to print services for a color test. In the end, the whole thing ill be 18 X 24... so I need to get the colors correct first!!

new beginnings.

So my new 24 inch imac is up and running!! yay!! It's LOVELY...so much better than working on my laptop. The piece above is for Mike's birthday (that was a week ago).. I'm having fun with it and doing what I want..which is fun. He wanted something that's very "me". I think there's about 2 hours worth of work thus far... comments and crits always welcome :)

whew.

Wow, it's been quite some time since I posted!! With a good reason, I promise. It just got to the point that I was working so hard at work (and out of it, but still working on our intern project) that doing my personal art took a backseat. I think I burned out twice, something I have never done before, but I learned how to deal with it and get myself back together. Most of it had to do with having Mike help me through it. Thanks hun! So I finished up on Friday, it was bittersweet. The sweet part being not having to get up at 6 AM monday morning... the bitter part not working as a professional/getting paid/ and working with really fabulous people. The design studio at Bealls IS AMAZING, they do so much and they are all really talented people. I guess I am more sad than happy, but hopefully (and if the economy doesn't take a totally crap) I will have a spot up there when I graduate... I will be doing freelance for them during the year and Jan (boss lady) wanted me to be an "on call" artist, meaning, whenever they needed me I would come up and work like normal. I turned that down because of the craziness that is senior year. But it's ok, she knows about ringling and all that.

In the end I ended up doing at least 45 beach towels, I know about 20-25 of them that are booked, and about another 9 that probably will be, but I ran out of time and didn't get to send them over- seas myself. I also did these nifty flip flops, wedge sandles, dinner ware, missy tee's and such. I learned A LOT about the business of art and this whole retail world, which is quite fascinating. The intern project ( bascially a re-branding of the juniors and young men private brand) went really well. The presentation was NERVE RACKING! But we did a really great job and it rocked. I had a good team of interns to work with. yay!

I can't believe all the art I produced. I'm going to bring my binder of work to ringling to show a few teachers what bealls is all about so they can help steer future students who want to get into fashion/reatail/ pattern design.

Oi, I can't even sum up all of my 12 weeks there and I have mixed emotions about going back to school. I have no idea what sorta style I want to do, because I worked so differently at bealls. So I'm at a loss on that and I just feel different. I can't explain it. Weird. Hopefully when I see some more familiar faces again (*cough... matt) I'll be able to figure it out.

Anyhoo, here's a pic of about half the design team (plus mike, matt's wife, and Jan's son). we went bowling right after work to celebrate my 12 weeks with them. It was a lot of fun, and I will miss them!! We are a little weird, but you have to be to be in this business. :)

6/8 word "communication"

yea... I had a super busy week this week and I started this about 2 hours ago...and yea. It's ok. I figured I could throw in my schematic thing because um, it looks technical like communication. Anyhoo, I have this intern project thing for work, but I have to work on it at home because I'm too busy at work to work on it. UGH. Yea, I totally don't want to deal with it on my time. But oh well. . I saw my first towel design on an actual beach towel, super exciting!! Ok, enough personal stories. I like the peacock. He amuses me. And yes, he is wearing a monocle.

orange 5/30

This weeks installment for flibbertigibbet...
This one didn't take long. I have no idea... haha. Actually I do have an idea.. I made something with things I like. Owls. This sweet bike from the 70's called a Lemon Peeler (by Schwinn) and a schematic. This would make a tight business card. :) Man, I want a bike like that!

taste- 5/25

I did this one as a nod to what I'm doing this weekend. Being completely in summer mode.... spending my 3 days at the pool, eating stuff, wearing bright clothes, and all that stuff. Totally having a bbq tonight. :) The taste part is of course, the ice cream. This is my absolute favorite thing to eat... a chocolate-vanilla swirl soft-serve ice cream cone. After I finished this piece I realized it's much like my 20's flapper chicks.... btw, she's not supposed to be me, but if I lost like 40 lbs and had longer hair....why not? Haha.

it's been awhile

It seems that all blogs across the board aren't posting as much but I guess that's summer for ya. My friend Matt and I started a little blog to keep up doing art at least once a week. It's pretty much our version of Illustration Friday. This is the first image i did. the word was "Falling". I dunno how much I'll put into that blog.....when I come home from work im pretty much pooped and art-ed out. I think I'd like to re-visit this sometime and do it in Illustrator.

mother's day

I made this little book for my mom for Mother's day. We like chickens so I made up this little book about them....

Tuesday, April 29, 2008

done.

Just had my last class of junior year! Woot! I'm always sad to leave ringling for the summer....I just love being around creative people. It's nifty. Anyways, now I can enjoy some personal projects, cleaning (since I fail to clean my workspace at all during the semester) and I start my internship with Beall's on May 12th. Goooood times. Woot woot we're seniors.... ah.

bi-annual figure dump.

It's that time of the year.... I've scanned in all my paintings and such from this semester's figure painting class. They are in chronological order and all that...there were some drawings I did but I didn't scan them. So yea, here it is. Towards the end I switched to watercolor cause oils smell. Haha. Seriously.

Tuesday, April 22, 2008

Yay, my last illustration is done! Well it wasn't that hard since I took a drawing from my children's book.... but I had fun doing it and I really love corel painter. And I finally finished my little owls, I concentrated on palettes with these and I have definitely refreshed my memory on illustrator.

friday fun

I went to JoAnn fabrics the other day and I saw they had some perdy felt...so I got some to make silly things. I like being crafty and the break from doing art stuff is refreshing. Partly inspired by Ugly Dolls, trish's creations (see link under "students" and hallmark's screaming banshee. I don't ever plan to sell these unless someone really wants one... They're just a fun little thing for me to do!

updates are cool

Classes are winding down, my children's book is done and the final, finished pages are printed. Whew. The top image is the finished cover....super cute and the bottom image is just something I did to brush up on my adobe illustrator skills.

stuffs

Here's a smattering of stuff I've been working on. The top image is my finished spread for children's book. The middle image is the beginnings of the final cover for the book and the bottom image is another spread in the book. We have an open assignment in illustration so I'm doing another spread...I honestly just wanted to paint the luggage. It's happy. I just blocked in all the local colors and stuff, I haven't jumped into lighting or atmospheric stuff yet..

some owls...

Owls. Yup. I like owls. I need to brush up on my adobe illustrator skills so I'm doin some owls.... . They're cute, what can I say? And they make me happy. Happy Owls. WIP by the way.

Thursday, April 3, 2008

yay!

ok, I'm finished with this one (until Perez sees it tomorrow). I learned a whole lot on it, I really am liking painter, it lets me be painterly without oil paint. No messiness!! :O) yipppee! I think this is a fun solution for children's stuff and cuteness but watercolor will always hold a special nook in my heart.

Erni and Edwin

I feel like my children's book is being neglected on my blog so... here we go. Today I started the final art work for it, if its confusing I posted the line drawing with text at the bottom. Basically I blocked everything in today.

The owl (Edwin) who's playing hop scotch is the most hammered out in the rendering/color sense. I enjoy the blue in the grass but I think it's a bit strong at the moment. Most of these colors are my "undercolors" ...kinda like underwear, I just build on top of them. :P As always, with any piece, comments, criticism and hellos are most welcome.

wip...

an update on the latest thing... scroll down to see the beginning stages... it's getting there. For me digital is hard because there's so many directions I could go with something it's hard to stay focused on what I want the over-all piece to look like. The building is where I want thing this to go so hopefully I can stay focused on the painterly and not the flat.

i like crafts

I wish I had more time/a good reason to make more stuff. There's something so relaxing and fulfilling about it. I made a little book this morning. I think I'm going to use it as a sketchbook for the weekend and then use it for an assignment for illustration. Take note of the cute little button...
